1968 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 Emblem Cell Phone Case for Smartphone

Do you know how the Oldsmobile 4-4-2 got its name? If you’re not familiar, I suspect you may assume that it has a huge 442 cubic inch/7.2-liter V8, but it’s not that.– these cars actually had an even bigger 455 cubic inch engine. No, the numbers are there for weirder reasons. The name refers to a four-barrel carburetor, a four-speed manual transmission, and two exhaust pipes. The 442 name is legendary now, but, objectively, this is a weird-ass way to name a car. Carb barrels, gears, and exhaust outlets? Seems like a sort of haphazard selection of traits, though they are significant ones. The second generation saw the 442 at its zenith, both in terms of performance and popularity. From 1968–1971, Oldsmobile offered the 442 as a standalone vehicle, but slumping sales put the kibosh on that pretty quickly. It returned in 1972 as a Cutlass option again. As performance started to dip, the Oldsmobile 442 still survived as appearance and balance options. It was a testament to its success that the Oldsmobile continued to be offered into the next decade and beyond. Major exterior changes met the 442, evolving through various color schemes and aerodynamic style changes. Ultimately, these generations found themselves trying to find their place amongst the increasing regulations of the era. The final generations of the Oldsmobile 442 involved several different designs and options that renewed interest in the classic car. The Hurst/Olds was brought back, along with the “W” options that had been so popular. Although it continued to be popular, these generations also saw pauses in the production of the 442s. It would return with new designs while staying true to its name. Eventually, the Oldsmobile 442 name would finally be retired forever in the early '90s.
