1957 Oldsmobile Super 88 Fiesta Station Wagon Aluminum Parking Fridge Magnet

The '57 Buick Caballero and Oldsmobile Fiesta hardtop wagons are two of the most elegant wagons ever built. The Chevrolet Nomads are cool, of course, but four doors are almost mandatory for a truly useful family wagon, and the hardtop design hides the rear doors well. The Oldsmobile beats out the Buick because it has the cleaner design of the two. Back in the days when marques were more delineated than they are now, Oldsmobiles were cool. Alas, in the 1950s, station wagons had not achieved any level of cool. Small surprise, then, that Olds didn't even offer one from 1951-'56; why would a division with that kind of street reputation build something for hauling brats around town? But the lure of the station wagon finally brought one back to the Rocket division, and the Fiesta (a name previously used on a low-production convertible in 1953) was born. Available in base Golden Rocket 88 and mid-range Super 88 forms, exactly 19,800 1957 Olds wagons were built; the Super 88 Fiesta seen here was one of 8,981 built in mid-level trim. For an extra kick in the pants, you could order the J-2 option (code W), consisting of a compression ratio increase to 10.0:1 and three two-barrel carburetors. Only the center two-barrel was linked mechanically to the throttle; the outer two carbs were vacuum-operated, offering two-barrel top-end efficiency with significant grunt when your foot is to the floor. The result: A whopping 300hp at 4,600 rpm and 415 lbs.ft. at 3,000 rpm, good enough for low-8-second 0-60 mph performance, and quarter-miles in 17 seconds flat. Not a bad way to spend $83 on your new Oldsmobile's option sheet.

Whether the J-2 name was a play on the JATO Jet Assisted Take-Off rocket remains undetermined, though not out of the realm of possibility thanks to Oldsmobile's long-standing "rocket power" motif. A special competition J-2 package was available also, but it cost $385 and had enough internal modifications that it was recommended only for competition and off-road use.

Make room on the fridge and show your passion for your 1957 Oldsmobile Super 88 Fiesta Station Wagon. It deserves a reserved "parking spot" in the middle of the other magnets. The magnet is 2” x 3” (77 x 51 mm) and is quality made of .045” American Aluminum that will not fade or break. It has rounded corners and a 1 inch square magnet in the back. Stick it to anything you'll like, on your fridge, workbench, toolbox, or man cave board. The colors are brights, vibrant and contrast beautifully. For any car guy, this is the ideal gift to add style and show their pride, even in the middle of the kitchen.
