In 1949 Oldsmobile introduce to the world, their world: the "Ringed Globe" emblem. It is in my opinion one of the most beautiful car emblem that I have seen. With the new sheet metal and mechanical components of the late forties, the company symbol became a ringed globe with heavy emphasis on various rocket forms to express power. This emblem appeared on Oldsmobile's first official pace car of the Indianapolis 500. The Series 88 was powered by the industry's first high compression V-8 engine, aptly named the "Rocket 88." The depiction of a globe encircled in a ring, which symbolized the atmosphere and separated in the middle by a horizontal ring object, which could be interpreted as a satellite circulating in orbit around us. Parallel to the curve of the globe, there was a company name above the planet itself. The entire logo gives away an iconic cosmic style that Oldsmobile tried to embrace. Interestingly enough, it was years before the start of the space age when they adopted this logo. The ringed globe lasted until the late 50s, when it was replace by the iconic Rocket emblem.
