1958 Oldsmobile Super 88 Holiday Hardtop T-Shirt for Women

The Oldsmobile model lineup entered 1958, General Motor's 50th year of automobile production, wearing new designs created under the direction of Art Ross, who had headed the Oldsmobile Design Studio since 1947. Deviating from recent marque styling trends, Ross replaced the prior oval-shaped 'jet intake' front grille with a full-width horizontal-bar grille and a large chromed bumper with intake-like bezels for the turn signals at either end. Spear-shaped pieces on the front fenders replaced the prior arching side trim, and a series of horizontal strakes could now be found on the quarters that reached back to meet large chromed taillight housings. The 1958 Oldsmobile lineup included the entry-level Dynamic 88, mid-level Super 88, and the 98. Both the Dynamic and Super 88 rested on a 122.5-inch wheelbase platform that had a length of 208.2 inches. The Super 88 shared its V8 engine with the 98 - it was a NASCAR-inspired 371 cubic-inch 'Golden Rocket' engine was equipped with a Quadra-Jet four-barrel carburetor and delivered 305 horsepower at 4,600 RPM. The optional J-2 induction system with triple two-barrel carburetors increased horsepower to 312 horsepower and 415 pounds-feet of torque. Operating on the center carburetor during normal driving, the J-2's pair of outer carburetors provided a strong power boost under heavy acceleration. The J-2 optional also added a higher 10:1 compression and freer-flowing dual exhaust with chrome exhaust tips. Body styles on the Super Eighty-Eight included a 2- and 4-door Holiday hardtop, sedan, convertible, and station wagon. Prices ranged from $3,110 for the sedan and rose to $3,630 for the station wagon. All of the standard features found on the Dynamic Eighty-Eight were included on the Super Eighty-Eight including turn signals, 8.50x14 inch tires, an aluminum anodized grille, and an oil filter. Additional items included a padded dash, parking brake light, foam rubber padded seat cushions, courtesy lights, the larger engine, and chrome rocker panel moldings. Optional equipment included the Trans-Portable Radio, a cigar lighter, electric clock, deluxe heater and defroster system, chrome outside mirror, vent windows, and a power radio antenna. The K-4 Headlining Option Added sponge vinyl headlining material, sun visors, bright side roof rails, and bright roof bows. The comprehensive K-5 Interior Option Group added a Safety-Padded Instrument Panel, Foam Rubber Seat Cushions, Trimmed Front Seat-Back Side Panels, and Aluminum Front Seat Side Panels.
